Christmas message from Des Browne,
MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun

“THE year of 2007 marked my 10th anniversary as the MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun. During the past decade I have seen great change and progress throughout the whole of Ayrshire.

“In 2007 I visited a number of businesses in my constituency like Mahle Engine Systems and TPS Fronius Ltd. At the time of my visit to the former it had taken on more staff, and the latter company is now in the process of finalising with a UK manufacturer their first contract in mainland China. I know from talking to companies like these that there is pride in what has been achieved in our local economy.

“Meeting with local businesses and the relevant agencies ensures that I am aware of the challenges that the economy of Ayrshire faces in sustaining and improving performance. However the performance of Ayrshire in recent years in the growing sectors such as retailing and catering bodes well for 2008, and I am sure that with the co-operation of all levels in governance it will continue to make strides in the right direction.

“I would like to thank Ayrshire Scotland Business News for allowing me to send this message to its readers, and would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and prosperous 2008.”

[Rt Hon Des Browne, MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun is Secretary of State for Scotland and Secretary of State for Defence].
