John Scott urges Ayrshire businesses to apply for rates relief
John Scott MSP for Ayr has this week urged small businesses in Ayrshire to check if they are eligible to benefit from a package of business rates cuts which come into effect on 1 April.
Mr Scott (pictured above) said: “As a result of the budget passed by the Scottish Parliament earlier this year, and as a result of pressure by Conservative MSPs to have rates relief for small companies included within that budget, more than 10,000 businesses across Ayrshire will now be able to benefit from lower rates bills, and I am encouraging every small company in Ayrshire to make sure that they claim any relief for which they are eligible.
“From 1 April, businesses with a rateable value of less than £8,000 should pay no business rates at all. Businesses valued between £8,001 and £10,000 will be eligible for a 50% rates discount, while those with a rateable value of between £10,001 and £15,000 can have a 25% discount applied.
“Rates relief is not automatic and must be applied for, so if any local business believes that they are entitled to a cut in their rates then I would urge them to contact the Council to ensure that their application is made.
“During the current difficult economic times it is all the more important that small companies make sure that they are taking advantage of all the relief that they are entitled to receive, to help them weather this challenging climate and to safeguard local jobs.”

Town centre office accommodation in Ayr for let or sale
J&E Shepherd Chartered Surveyors, on a joint basis with GVA Grimley, has been appointed to offer an established town centre office location in Ayr for let or sale.
Located at 24 Wellington Square, the traditional two-storey, basement and attic building offers a number of individual office suites ranging in size from 80 sq ft to 3000 sq ft. The subjects form part of a larger building which previously operated as a gym and extends to 5,800 sq ft.
Shepherd’s surveyor Markus Kroner said: “The landlords are willing to adopt a flexible approach and would consider leases ranging from individual rooms up to the entire premises.
“The property is situated on Wellington Square, close by its junction with Alloway Place in what is one of Ayr’s best office addresses. The former gym area has a separate entrance from Wellington Lane to the rear. In addition to on street car parking, the immediate area has a number of public car parks.”

Cambridgeshire Business News website launched
1MarketPlace Ltd, publishers of Ayrshire Scotland Business News, are launching a sister website Cambridgeshire Business News, which can be found at www.CambridgeshireBusinessNews.com
Editor Murdoch MacDonald says: “Cambridgeshire is another exciting business area in the UK, and seemed an ideal location to base our second business news website.
“Cambridge has been named the UK’s most recession-proof city, and the East of England Development Agency recently published a paper indicating that Cambridge will grow to the size of Manchester by 2031, with the population rising from 150,000 to 3/400,000.
“I hope that there will be plenty of synergy between the two sites, and that we can provide ample new business opportunities for expansion-minded companies in Ayrshire.”
