Main speakers included Wendy Liu, manager of the China-Britain Business Council’s Glasgow office, Bill Ure and Kellie Zdanowicz of JB Management, and Kirsteen Higgins, Smart Exporter Operations Manager, Scottish Enterprise.

The meeting in the Robertson Room in the main building at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum was attended by MSPs John Scott, Adam Ingram and Chic Brodie, and South Ayrshire Council Deputy Provost Mary Kilpatrick, Deputy Leader Margaret Toner, and Executive Director of Development & Environment Lesley Bloomer.

Frazer Coogans Commercial Solicitors senior partner and Elite Ayrshire Business Circle executive chairman Norman Geddes chaired the meeting and commented: “We were delighted to welcome Chinese Consul-General in Edinburgh Li Ruiyou, Consul Mr Wan Degang, and Deputy Consul Miss Zhu Hongying, and are grateful to them for having taken the time out of their busy schedules to come to Ayrshire.

“As the economic skies continue to darken, it becomes ever more vital that, for the Ayrshire economy to continue to thrive and prosper, more local companies must find ways to do business in parts of the world like China that are still managing to achieve economic growth.

“Many Ayrshire companies have already established business relationships in China, and are to be congratulated for having done so. But more must follow their shining example, and we hope that this latest meeting of the Elite Ayrshire Business Circle will inspire them and assist them to do so.”
