South Ayrshire Council Provost Winifred Sloan harnesses power of the web

Everyone knows that South Ayrshire Council has a Provost, but do you understand the complexity of the duties that a Provost carries out and the dedication needed to fulfil this role?

Always a woman to move with the times, South Ayrshire Provost Winifred Sloan has decided to harness the Council’s website to give people a real insight into her duties.

Provost Sloan said: “I am always being asked about my duties, the robes, and the chain of office, and people are keen to know what I do, so I decided to have a page created on our Council’s website dedicated to this for anyone to log on and find out more.

“It is important that people can access this information in a quick and easy way, so it is simply a matter of clicking onto www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/provost

The position of Provost is apolitical with the Provost being the First Citizen of South Ayrshire and the face of South Ayrshire at civic events.

The Provost’s section on the website is full of interesting information about the duties such as Chairing the Council meetings; hosting civic receptions; promoting the Council’s profile through social, community, cultural and business events and through the media; and working closely with the business community and voluntary organisations.

Provost Sloan added: “If you click on to my website page, you will find out how easy it is to contact me about special wedding anniversaries, 100th birthday celebrations, civic hospitality, events or read my press releases. Take the time to look and see what activities I’ve been involved in.”

South Ayrshire Council is a founder member of the Elite Ayrshire Business Circle.
