CKD Galbraith offer country homes within commuting distance of Glasgow

The town of Stewarton has always proved popular with families looking to move out of town and seek the rural idyll, whilst still being within comfortable commuting distance of Glasgow. It also has the advantage of being set in some of North Ayrshire’s prettiest countryside, and its history of artisan and rural industries is reflected in the rich variety of traditional local architecture, much of which is retained in the area today.

Formerly known as “The Bonnet Toun”, Stewarton retains a range of local businesses and services, as well as well regarded primary and secondary schools. Around a 30 minute drive away are the bright lights of the new Silverburn Shopping Centre and Glasgow’s south side.

Two unique examples of lovely country family homes are being marketed through CKD Galbraith’s Ayr office.

Cutstraw Cottage (pictured above) is a delightful listed property, a short distance from the edge of the village. Formerly comprised two cottages, it was once believed to have been home to the village bonnet maker, lending it a further historic connection to the “Bonnet Toun”. Now extended and modernized, the owners have created a comfortable family home with an element of contemporary design whilst still retaining the original character and charm. There are three main reception rooms and three bedrooms within the main house, and a separate self-contained building, currently used as an artist’s studio. A garden with lovely views towards Arran and a 2.7 acre grazing paddock complete this delightful rural holding. It is being marketed at offers over £380,000.

For larger families, Kirkmuir Farm (pictured above) is a fine refurbished farmhouse with adjoining traditional steading, which has been comprehensively refurbished by the present owners to create a lovely family home. The farmhouse has three reception rooms, conservatory, study and four bedrooms, with flexible accommodation including a self-contained office/guest room. The extensive gardens which surround the house have been professionally landscaped and are a particularly fine feature of the farm. There are a number of outbuildings, including a traditional steading offering considerable potential for a variety of uses. In addition there is a useful area of hard standing, and, for equestrian enthusiasts, up to 22 acres of grazing land. Kirkmuir Farm is for sale at offers over £450,000.

Ayr Racecourse and Ayr United offer double header of sport

Football fans are being encouraged to cash in on a double header of sport on Monday 25 July – the night Ayr United take on a Manchester United X1 at Somerset Park.

Earlier that day Ayr Racecourse is staging a Summer Sizzler Raceday with seven races scheduled at the track just a couple of hundred yards away from the football ground.

And bosses at the course are offering anyone with a ticket for the football free entry to the racing – the first time Ayr’s two biggest sporting institutions have combined in such a way.

Ayr United’s new shirt sponsors Bodog will be in town for the match and are also sponsoring the opening race – the Bodog Supports Ayr United Median Auction Maiden Stakes. Members of the Bodog team will also enjoy an afternoon’s racing before heading along the road to Somerset Park for the game.

It is hoped there will be a big uptake on the offer and that holidaymakers in the town will also reap the benefit as well as Ayr United diehards.

Ed Pownall, Global PR Director for BodogBrand.com said:: “It’s a huge day for Manchester United playing at their guvnor Sir Alex Ferguson’s old club, and as long as nerves don’t get the better of the Premier League Champions it should be a good game against The Honest Men.

“To be able to combine a day at the races with a night at Somerset Park is, surely, the perfect summer night out, so we urge any punters out there to come along for a day at the races on the West Coast.”

Ayr Racecourse Sales and Marketing Manager Lindsey Smith commented: “It is a perfect opportunity to team up with Ayr United and offer fans a very busy sporting Monday.

“It is also a great chance to welcome Bodog to Ayr and show them just what the town has to offer on the sporting front.”

Tracy McTrusty, Operations Manager, Ayr United added: “We are delighted to be teaming up with our friends at Ayr Racecourse to offer this fabulous opportunity to enjoy a great day of sport locally at a fantastic price.

“We hope for great weather and will be working hard to encourage as many people as possible locally and nationally to take up this offer.”

Elite Ayrshire Business Circle holds successful Summer Luncheon at Turnberry

The Elite Ayrshire Business Circle has held a successful Summer Luncheon for members and guests in the Turnberry Suite at the Turnberry Luxury Collection Resort.

Elite Ayrshire Business Circle executive chairman and Frazer Coogans Commercial Solicitors senior partner Norman Geddes presided over the event, hosted by Turnberry Luxury Collection Resort’s recently appointed general manager Jordi Tarrida.

Norman Geddes commented: “I would like to thank Jordi Tarrida and his colleagues for their outstanding hospitality, and congratulate them all for putting on such an excellent event for the Elite Ayrshire Business Circle.

“We were most fortunate with the weather, as a beautiful summer day gave us the opportunity to enjoy pre-lunch drinks on the Turnberry Suite’s large private outdoor terrace offering elevated views over the legendary Ailsa golf course, Irish Sea and island of Ailsa Craig.

“The meal itself was excellent and most enjoyable, and the setting inside the Turnberry Suite itself truly magnificent.

“The event afforded members and guests an enviable networking opportunity, but it was by no means all business, as we were also treated to some musical entertainment by Ayrshire singing sensation Kelly Mathieson, who gave us beautiful renditions of three songs, “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again”, “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” and “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.

“Turnberry Luxury Collection Resort is one of the icons of Ayrshire’s hospitality and tourism industry, and of the Ayrshire business community as a whole, and as such an appropriate venue for our Summer Luncheon, a major event in the Elite Ayrshire Business Circle calendar.

“I am sure that all our members and guests will look forward to returning to Turnberry at the earliest possible opportunity.”
