Turnberry to host top international classic car rally this weekend

Turnberry, the Luxury Collection Resort in Ayrshire, is to play host to an international car rally featuring more than 40 classic cars this weekend. The week-long Scottish Malts Rally, an event attracting drivers and their cars from all corners of the globe, will be staged at the resort, starting on Sunday 29 April.

Members of the public are invited to come along to the event to see the unique cars as they arrive throughout the day on Sunday from 11.30am. The next day will see the cars flagged away for the first of two driving tests within the grounds of the resort, followed by a series of daily challenges which will see the competitors and their vehicles travelling hundreds of miles across Scotland before returning to Ayrshire. The event will then conclude on 4 May when the public will get a further opportunity to come along to view the cars as they return to Turnberry from 3.30pm.

The Scottish Malts Rally is run by the Historic Endurance Rallying Organisation (HERO) and will feature a huge range of classic and vintage cars ranging from the very first right-hand drive production Jaguar E-Type Fixed Head Coupe, supplied by Jaguar Cars in August 1961, to a 1930 Riley Brooklands 9HP.

Turnberry General Manager, Jordi Tarrida (pictured above) said of the event: “We are thrilled to be hosting the prestigious Scottish Malts event here at Turnberry which attracts participants from all over the world. We look forward to giving all those involved a five-star Scottish welcome. I would encourage anyone with an interest in classic cars to come along and see these beautiful vehicles when they will be on display here at Turnberry on 29 April and 4 May.”

Tomas de Vargas Machuca, Managing Director of HERO, said: “We have attracted some amazing cars from all over the world to take part in the Scottish Malts Rally this year. We want to make sure that as many people as possible in Scotland have the opportunity to come along, see the cars, meet the drivers and enjoy the spectacle of this exciting event.”
