Ayr Racecourse Ladies Night offers fashion, music, racing and fun

By: Iain Ferguson

AYR Racecourse will be transformed into a giant catwalk this Saturday 11 August when ladies don their glad rags and head to the legendary Champagne GH Mumm Ladies Night.

One of the biggest crowds of the year will descend on the course with around 7,500 expected for the evening that mixes and fashion, music and racing.

The highlight of the night for many will be the appearance after racing from chart topping Scouting For Girls (pictured below) who will perform a full concert on an outside stage beside the paddock.

In recent weeks the band have been heard on every radio station in the country with their new single “Summertime In The City” receiving massive air play ahead of its release on 26 August.

And the boys also have a new album “The Light Between Us” scheduled for September release.

Saturday will see them play a full 75 minute concert featuring some of the new material along with all their hits including “This Ain’t A Love Song”, “She’s So Lovely”, “Heartbeat” and “Elvis Ain’t Dead”

Coins will be awarded to the best dressed ladies on the night that guarantees them a place in the final of the ladies competition.

Star prize is a Vauxhall Astra GTC 1.4 16v 140 BHP Turbo Start Stop SRI courtesy of Kerr & Smith/Iveco Trucks. The second prize is a fabulous seven day P & O Cruise for 2 to Spain and Portugal from Stewart Travel while third place carries a prize of a classy piece of jewellery from Alex Cairncross of Perth.

Up to 27 ladies will win a coin and a place in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Ladies Grand Final when each will draw a horse running in a designated race on Saturday 22 September.

And the men haven’t been forgotten with a Best Dressed Man on Ladies Night prize of £300 of vouchers courtesy of Slaters with Ayr store manager Jack Blades in attendance to present the winning prize.

Ayr Racecourse Sales and Marketing Manager Lindsey Smith looking ahead to the big night commented: “Ticket sales have been very encouraging and we will have a record advance sale on the night.

“We are also forecast some good weather so all in all it looks like being one of our best ever nights. Scouting For Girls are obviously a very important added attraction and with tickets on sale on the gates also we are predicting a bumper crowd.”
