Sunshine, glamour and music make best ever Ladies Night at Ayr Racecourse
By: Iain Ferguson
Sunshine, glamour and music combined to make Champagne GH Mumm Ladies Night at Ayr Racecourse on Saturday one of the most successful ever.
A crowd of just over 7,000 flocked to the track, and the most popular area was on the sun kissed champagne lawns where huge crowds gathered to enjoy racing and entertainment.
The course was busy long before the first race as thousands of glamorous ladies tried to catch the eye of the Ladies Competition judges.
Several lucky girls won a coin on the night, which sees them invited back to the course on Saturday 22 September to try to win the star prize – a fabulous Vauxhall Astra GTC 1.4 16v 140 BHP Turbo Start Stop SRI courtesy of Kerr & Smith/Iveco Trucks.
In addition to winning a coin on the night the ladies (pictured above) also received a goodie bag from KZ Hair, who have several branches including ones in Ayr, Troon, Prestwick and Kilmarnock.
There was also a prize for the Best Dressed Man on the night sponsored by Slaters, and Ayr branch manager Jack Blades handed over £300 of vouchers to local man Kenneth Kenally.
Some of the biggest cheers came when 50/1 outsider Bee Brave won the third race. As the triumphant horse and rider returned to the paddock there were yelps of delight from ladies who had somehow picked the winner.
After racing Scouting For Girls (pictured below) played a stunning concert in the paddock area with the crowds going mad as the band unleashed their hits including “This Ain’t A Love Song”, “She’s So Lovely”, “I Wish I Was James Bond” and “Elvis Ain’t Dead”.
The champagne lawns were still packed well after 11 o’clock as the fun continued.
Ayr Racecourse Sales and Marketing Manager Lindsey Smith commented: “What a night! The feedback has been just amazing and I think its safe to say that the Scouting For Girls performance was the best ever seen at Ayr.
“Now its all systems go for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival in September.”
