Curry night fundraiser at Ayr Spice Restaurant in Minishant a great success

A curry night fundraising event at Ayr Spice Restaurant in Minishant, Ayrshire was a sizzling sell-out success for the Maybole branch of Save the Children, with diners raising money to help children hit by a devastating typhoon in Bangladesh.

The Bangladeshi Curry Night at Ayr Spice, Minishant, made £1,044 net for Save the Children Fund. The charity’s Maybole chair Becky Fleming said: “We had a great evening. There were fancy dress prizes for Halloween costumes and assorted raffle prizes, with lively entertainment from two sets of singers, Cloe Simpson and Jim Stevens and his daughter Mhairi Gibson.

“Ayr Spice Restaurant proprietor and head chef Mafiz Ali prepared a delicious and interesting buffet of authentic Bangladeshi curries.”

She said Mafiz, himself from Bangladesh, pictured in white above, wanted the money raised to go to the charity’s Build it for Babies campaign which has already hit its first £1 million target to build seven clinics for mothers and their babies.

Becky added:  “Save the Children is looking forward to raising the next million to help families hit by the typhoon which destroyed road networks resulting in mothers having to travel by canoe to the clinics. We realised that they really need a lot more local clinics.”

The Maybole branch members had heard first-hand about the needs of families after Save the Children regional coordinator Dorothy Parker, who has just returned from a visit to Bangladesh, told them about her eventful visit and the clinics being built.
