Jim Goldie lands double at Ayr Racecourse

By: Iain Ferguson

Jim Goldie bounced back to form at Ayr Racecourse’s recent meeting when saddling a double.

The Uplawmoor-based trainer struck first with Seven Is Lucky (6/1), ridden by Henry Brooke who got to beat stable companion Spirit Of A Nation (0/30) by a length in the Follow Us On Twitter@BetVictorRacing Handicap Hurdle.

The second leg of the double came with Bene Lad (10/1), the mount of Richie McGrath, in the David Goldie Retirement Handicap.

Jockey of the day was the aforementioned Henry Brooke who bookended his win on Seven Is Lucky with successes for his guv’nor Donald McCain on board Dreams Of Milan (2/9 fav) in the Novices Hurdle and Grouse Lodge (8/13 fav) in the Novices Chase.

Nicky Richards was another trainer in form with a double courtesy of And The Man (6/4 fav and pictured on the right above), under Brian Harding in the BetVictor Non Runner Free Bet At Aintree Novices’ Handicap Chase and Simply Ned (9/2), ridden by Fearghal Davis in the two mile handicap hurdle.

Leading female jumps jockey Lucy Alexander rode out her claim aboard Frankie’s Promise (5/1), trained by her father Nick in the national hunt flat race.

Ayr’s next meeting is the two-day March fixture featuring La Barrique Fine Wines Race Day on Friday 8 March and Irish Race Day on Saturday 9 March.

There will be seven races each day and live music for three hours after the last race.

One of the races on the Saturday is sponsored by the owners of Merigo (pictured above), winner of the 2010 and 2012 Coral Scottish Grand National and runner up in 2011. The famous horse will run in its own race – Merigo's Looking Forward to Another Scottish National Novices Hurdle over three miles.

The feature races of the day are a handicap chase for the Hugh Barclay Challenge Trophy and a handicap chase over two miles.

Coming only a few days before the legendary Cheltenham Festival Ayr’s Irish Raceday traditionally attracts a big crowd.
