The Kitchen Cabinet doors open in Ayr

Grateful gourmands, fervent foodies and chuffed chefs turned out in numbers to welcome BBC Radio 4’s The Kitchen Cabinet programme to Ayr, where an episode of the popular show was recorded last night (28 October 2013).

Some 350 people packed Ayr Town Hall where host Jay Rayner anchored a witty, fast-moving, and occasionally irreverent programme, packed full of information and plenty of good-humoured conversation about cookery, food and eating.

Jay said: “The Kitchen Cabinet travels across the UK, but to be in Ayr with its fine seafood and game traditions is particularly pleasing.

“However, what really makes the programme is the audience and we had a great one here this evening.”

Audience members were encouraged to put questions on anything and everything to do with food and drink to a panel of experts which featured:

Rachel McCormack – the Glaswegian cook who is also an expert on Catalan cooking

Angela Malik – the Scottish-Indian fusion chef, and entrepreneur

Henry Dimbleby – cook, writer, and co-founder of Leon restaurants

Annie Gray – food historian specialising in Georgian and Victorian dining.

You can listen out for this episode of The Kitchen Cabinet on BBC Radio 4 at 3pm on Tuesday 5 November 2013.
