South Ayrshire Council announces another first for Carnegie Library

You can now get wired in for free at South Ayrshire Council’s Carnegie Library in Ayr, where for the first time free Wi-Fi connection is available to all library members.

£20,000 of joint funding was provided by SLIC (Scottish Libraries and Information Council) and the Scottish Government to enable a Wi-Fi service to be provided in Carnegie library. The installation was managed by the library team who worked with IT colleagues, Boston Networks and Lorensbergs to bring the project to fruition.

Councillor Bill Grant, Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure Portfolio Holder for the Council said: “South Ayrshire Council library members can now use wireless enabled laptop or mobile devices within the Carnegie Library in Ayr.

“Our libraries are evolving all the time, continually changing to meet the modern needs. Installing Wi-Fi will improve the service for our existing library members and I am sure encourage more people to use the facilities at Carnegie library in Ayr. We currently have over 22,000 members who enjoy all the library facilities.”

Library users can access the Wi-Fi in Carnegie library from their web browser which will automatically direct them to the Wi-Fi log in screen then all they have to do is enter their membership number and your PIN code. Library members can access the system for two hours and visitors for one hour each day. The Wi-Fi system is safe to use as it has the same filter system on it as all Council computers.

Amina Shah, Chief Executive of SLIC (Scottish Library and Information Council) said: “Introducing free Wi-Fi into South Ayrshire Council’s Carnegie Library means that more people can access harness modern technology while having easy access to other facilities in the library. This is another great example of how libraries meet the needs of the people.”

Councillor Bill Grant added: “We will continue to work to ensure that our libraries remain an outstanding example of how to embrace modern technology and changing ways of consuming information and literature. We led the way with introducing ebooks, and they have been a resounding success.”

To make best use of my time and get myself the freedom of more time away from the business to spend on hobbies and with family , still knowing it is growing and creating more, and more, profits.
Helping me to develop and build strong leadership skills and attributes so I can, not just manage, but truly lead my people and my company.
Helping me and my team get better use of our time and stop working reactively, putting out fires, and become more pro-active about building the company.
The most effective sales appeal for my product or service that in the eyes of potential customers will uniquely put my business a head and shoulders above my competition.
To help me understand how to re-invest my profits back into the business or how to take profits and invest them for passive income outside of my business.
Getting a solid business plan of action so I and my team are focused on doing what matters, what’s important and what will get the biggest results.
Working ‘ON’ my business rather than ‘IN’ it and create a systems dependent company rather than a people dependant one.
Help me understand my numbers, how the finance of business works so I can ask better questions of my accountant, and expand, franchise, acquire or just help me become a better owner.

Jockey James Doyle wins gold and silver at William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival

By: Iain Ferguson

JOCKEY James Doyle was the star of the show at the 2014 William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival at Ayr Racecourse, winning both the Gold and Silver Cups.

The southern based rider steered last year’s big race runner-up Louis The Pious to land gold, around an hour after he tasted silver success on the Roger Charlton trained Huntsmans Close.

He wrote his name into the record books when Louis The Pious won, as no jockey has achieved the double before, and he showed his delight as the David O’Meara 10/1 chance crossed the line.

James also captured the opening race, the QTS Handicap on Power Play for Richard Hannon, making it a treble on his first visit to the track in seven years.

Graham Lee was another jockey at the top of his game, riding Dark Reckoning to win the William Hill Firth of Clyde Stakes for trainer Ann Duffield at odds of 25/1 and then partnering the Saeed bin Suroor trained Sky Hunter, the 9/4 favourite, to land the William Hill 80th Anniversary Book Launch Doonside Cup.

And Graham was also among the winners earlier in the week, winning the Nursery Handicap on Roosey for Willie Haggas on Friday and landing the Wallace McDowall Handicap on Orient Class on Thursday.

Keith Dalgleish was the only Scottish trainer on the scoresheet –Harrison’s Cave, ridden by Joe Fanning, won the Grants Fruit Merchants Prestwick Handicap on Thursday, and Beautiful Stranger took the Enterprise Screen 10 Years of Video Handicap on Friday.

Thursday’s prestigious William Hill Handicap for the Kilkerran Cup was won by Fire Fighting, trained by Mark Johnston and ridden by Joe Fanning.

The glamour gauge was turned up a few notches on Friday – Ladies Day and the final of the ladies competition was held in conjunction with the William Hill Ayr Bronze Cup with each finalist during the name of a horse running in the race.

As the 24 runners hurtled down the home straight the screams of the girls watching just yards from the winning post grew louder and louder and it was New Cumnock girl Claire Young who was shouting the loudest as Expose crossed the line in front.

Claire won the star prize – a Vauxhall Adam car courtesy of Kerr & Smith. Llindyn Bollenhagen from Ayr won a holiday to Dubai courtesy of Stewart Travel and Emirates Airlines and Kelly Anderson from Kilmarnock was third winning cosmetic treatments from Coast Clinic.

Almost 12,000 people packed the stands on Saturday and they were treated to a fabulous day of sunshine. In all over the three days 20,000 attended the racing boosting the local economy by millions.

Ayr Racecourse Managing Director David Brown commented: “I think we gave people respite from the politics and all who attended seemed to have a great time. The champagne lawns were full and the atmosphere was one of people enjoying themselves.”

Ayr next races on Tuesday 30 September - September Finale Raceday and the feature race of the day is the £15,000 Betfair Scottish Racing Mile Series Final Handicap.

The first race is due off at 2.10pm with the last race at 5.30pm. For more information on racing at Ayr go online at or call 01292 264179.

The fields are interspersed with several woodland plantations totalling about 20.83 acres which provide shelter and sporting potential. Also included in lot 1 is a level house site with full planning permission to erect a single story dwelling with a detached double garage (granted in May 2014 and subject to 75 Agreement).
