This latest acquisition for MacKay’s comes on the back of the firm’s drive to further diversify the business within its heartland of Ayrshire.

Ritchie Young of Ritchie Young (Insurance Services) said: “After many years we have reached the stage where we have to review our position in the current market place, and it was decided to seek a partner to consolidate with.

“This was done in order to remain competitive, and, at the same time, deliver the service that our clients are used to. It was with this in mind that we opted to transfer the business to MacKay Corporate, and I am pleased to confirm that both Marion Kerr and Yvonne Bulloch are moving to the new team. I am comfortable that the service which our clients have had up until now will continue under the new regime.

MacKay Corporate Insurance Brokers director David MacKay commented: “MacKay Corporate Insurance Brokers are delighted to have pulled off this latest acquisition, and look forward to working with Ritchie in the servicing of his clients. Ritchie Young (Insurance Services) is a well respected firm in Kilmarnock, and we are confident that the addition of Ritchie and his team to our business will further enhance the service which we offer to clients within Ayrshire.”

MacKay Corporate Insurance Brokers were established in 1989, and have grown since then to be one of the leading independent insurance brokers in Scotland from its offices in Ayr. The business is the leading sports broker in Scotland, and also has strong connections with property owners and property investors, and within the SME market.

Stephen Wilkie said: "We are delighted to have raised money for a local charity and wish to thank everyone that sponsored us. We aim to participate in this 10K run each year and continue to raise money for Ayrshire Cancer Support."

David MacKay said: “I would echo Stephen’s comments, and hope we can be as successful next year.”

Ayrshire Cancer Support administrator Shirley Macmillan said: ‘We are very grateful to Stephen and David for raising this money all of which will benefit the people of Ayrshire."

Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated in Ayrshire since 1982 providing emotional support and practical help for cancer patients, their families, carers and the bereaved. Their aim is to ensure that help is readily available for everyone who needs it.

The Cancer Support Centres in Ayr and Kilmarnock were opened in 1997 in response to an identified need for counselling and support services. The centres provide a drop-in facility for cancer patients, their families and the bereaved and provide a range of services including counselling, support groups and complementary therapies.

The Ayrshire Cancer Support silver jubilee fun run/walk will take place at 1.30pm on Sunday 30 September and is open to all ages, fancy dress, pets and prams.

The 6K route starts at the Citadel Leisure Centre, Ayr, along the seafront promenade to the Doon estuary and return to the Citadel.

Entry forms can be obtained from the centres at Kilmarnock (01563 538008) or Ayr (01292 26988) or by e-mail to admin@ayrshirecs.org

Every participant will receive a commemorative Silver Jubilee Medal.
